3 Book Reviews for “The Cobra” by Frederick Forsyth

  • Forsyth lays out how it would all work, and readers will follow eagerly along, always thinking, yes, why don’t they do this in real life? The answer to that question lies at the heart of this forceful, suspenseful, intelligent novel.

  • Forsyth’s latest, “The Cobra,” does not come anywhere near creating that same intensity. Its subject matter makes it quite compelling, though, and given Forsyth’s skills at organizing his material, the novel is definitely worth your time…. Forsyth has given us a full-fledged novel, some parts of which readers will find familiar if they read the good newspapers from around the world every day. It has the power of memorable intelligent entertainment about a moral plague and a debilitating social dilemma, second only to contemporary sex trafficking in its destructive force.
  • “The Cobra” creates a vividly cinematic picture of the worldwide cocaine trade. Forsyth has recharged his batteries, producing his most ambitious novel in years by reproducing the minutely organised detail of his most famous book.

2 Comments about “The Cobra” by Frederick Forsyth

  1. Richard Dahl says:

Great book. However, it is not up to his normal fact checking standards. For example, on page 14 of the above pictured book, he has two tons of cocaine being transported in a pickup truck sneaking by the small border town of Nuevo Laredo.
#1 You could not get two tons in a normal pickup truck. One ton and it would be riding on its frame.
#2 Nuevo Laredo is NOT a small town.

  2. It is a good book but will take a mature reader to appreciate it fully. As a fan of Forsyth I liked it because his stories evolve and widen in scope; enjoyed the Art of War references within, and of course the final twist that reinforces the harshness of reality. The resurfacing of Cal Dexter was a nice touch; and readers of Avenger will appreciate the development of Paul Devareaux’s elusive character.
